Welcome to the Biospheric Foundation...an urban ecological experiment in the heart of the Blackfriars neighbourhood of Salford. 

We have been working to renovate Irwell House, a mill on the banks of the River Irwell, to turn it into an inspiring space for the community and visitors.

There are a range of projects developing with the community around food, energy and waste as well as the creation of a shared workspace for urban research. 

Our first project is the Whole Box, delivering fresh produce to East Salford and central Manchester.

Look out for our growing urban farm (on the roof, in the forest and across the building), our exciting events and research collaborations with some interesting partners.

Our Epoch Six Urban Lab is in the last stage of renovation, with our first tenants moving in we are currently taking enquiries to join this inspiring workspace.
